My current pet companion is Betty, a X Westie/Bishon. She arrived in my life in January 2010 aged 6 weeks. I was going through a lot of personal trauma at this time and was very uncertain taking on the responsibility of a dog.
Since times she has been both an instigator and an inspiration in my ongoing recovery. As the main organiser of Pets and Pals events so far Betty and I are to be found in the mix of all that is going on.
Richard blogs at http://whatevertheweatheriamdogwalking.weebly.com/ about all manner of things connected with dogs and health.

‘I started my career in teaching, but have worked as Liverpool Mental Health Consortium’s Involvement Worker since 2003. The change in direction was precipitated by personal experience of mental distress, so I’m fortunate to work for an organisation that enables others with similar experiences to have their voice heard & help improve mental health services.
I’m a relative newcomer to the dog-world, having been terrified of them when I was younger for no reason anyone could fathom. In February last year though, I arrived home one day to find an additional bundle on the couch next to my husband. No doubt if he’d have asked, I’d have said no! I was at first shocked, then wary, fairly bemused & eventually smitten.
Roxy is a perfect companion – frequently boisterous, occasionally irksome, but constantly attentive, affectionate & loyal. She may look hard, but she’s a big softy who likes nothing better than licking, running & hunting down anything remotely fluffy. I’m naturally shy & unnaturally unfit, so what could be better than a friend who loves exercise & being sociable? Pets & Pals? - obvious, really!’

Hi, I am Mo. I am a community development worker working in mental health services. I am also a dog owner. My dog 's name is Frankie. He is a lovely 5-year-old Westie who has brought us a lot of joy and happiness since he came to our lives.
I firmly believe that Pets, in Particular dogs could play an instrumental role in improving our well being and social network.
I am sure we are richer with pets in our lives. That is why I got involved with Pets and Pals.

I have worked supporting people with mental distress for 10 years and have lived experience of mental health issues for much longer within my family.
I currently work for Richmond Fellowship for the Our Time timebank which enables people to share skills and bank and withdraw time doing the things that they enjoy.
Though I'm allergic to dogs myself I support any natural methods that support wellbeing on any level

I am a recently qualified primary school teacher and previously a youth worker for 20+ years. I have a strong commitment to children and young people developing to their full potential, and becoming responsible and age-mature citizens in society.
I am lucky enough to have people around me who succumbed to my mid-life crisis demands, to own a pet! It proved to be a super decision all ‘round as a 20-month old Black Labrador Millie became part of our family, just over 6 years ago.
Millie has a fantastic character and is the warmest, friendliest dog you could ever hope to meet. Be warned however, she often becomes very friendly if she sees you with food!
I became involved with Pets and Pals, as I value how dogs benefit children and adults therapeutically. Their contribution to our mental health and well-being can be immense, as they enrich our lives and give us additional purpose.
Positive encounters with our furry friends can and do work wonders!
